WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE FESTIVAL?

ART▪︎SINING

Often a unique expression of self and circumstance but for many of us young creatives in the diaspora, it’s also a commentary on our struggles of belonging and acceptance.

OPEN CALL

ARTISTS ▪︎ PERFORMERS ▪︎ CREATORS

We are heirs of a proud story of migration, connected by a common heritage, and bound by a shared geography. Ours is a story not like that of those that came before us, but a story of our own.

As next generation Austrian-born, or raised, Filipinos, we often find ourselves asking or being questioned about our identity and belonging. The answer is never simple. It is never just one thing. It is confrontational at times and amusing at best. Constantly seeking a place between two worlds, trying to make sense of what it means to be in the middle, uncompromising and unapologetic, yet for us it is authentic and true.

As young Filipino creatives, we have taken it upon ourselves to continue this journey of discovery in the form of artistic and creative expression. What does it mean to be a young Filipino creative in Austria? Who are we as a community and children of the diaspora? Where do we draw inspiration from? If you’ve asked yourself similar questions in your creative journey, let us claim space together and celebrate being Filipino through our respective medium.

If you’re a performer, artist and cultural creator of Filipino descent, or if you are a culture professional interested in being part of this year’s KUBŌ22 art festival, we are looking for you! Join us in creating the first ever festival of its kind that gathers creative souls from the greater Filipino diaspora of Europe, and aims to lend a platform to elevate young Filipino talent while we celebrate the beauty of our diverse and mixed culture and unique community.

WHAT IS KUBŌ?

A gathering of minds, talents, and hearts united with a desire to create a safe space to discover, examine, and celebrate being Filipino, in the diaspora, through creative expression. Named after the filipino traditional hut, KUBŌ seeks to lend a platform, a podium, and a space for collaboration, partnership and a salo-salo between organizations, communities, leaders, friends, seekers and curious spectators of the filipino culture in austria and beyond.

KUBŌ is a community founded, in Vienna, Austria, by Sentro and young Filipino-Austrians seeking to build a bridge between their roots and their home country, through the power of arts & culture.
